Just in time for IWEX exhibition, Siemens is launching the new Sigrist in-line colour monitor, ColourPlus, completing its range of optical process instrumentation as turbidimeters and oil trace monitors The ColourPlus can be used for various applications in the water, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food industries, such as: Hazen colour and UV absorption measurement in water treatment processes; exact monitoring of colour, in oil, fuel, beverages; control of colouration processes; monitoring of decolouration processes, in paraffin, phthalic anhydride, sugar; measuring the concentration of substances as copper, chromium, chlorine dioxide, or others by their wavelength specific absorption

Safety controller suits Category 4 applications
Siemens has a powerful new fail-safe CPU for its Simatic-S7 300 controllers, suitable for use in safety-critical applications conforming to Categories 1 to 4 (EN 954-1) or SIL 1 to 3 (IEC 61508)
With simultaneous absorption measurement using up to 3 different wavelengths in the UV or visible range, compensation of interferences by other substances or suspended solids can be achieved as well as parallel measurement of different compounds.
Using a dual-beam set-up with a reference detector results in high accuracy and good sensitivity with a lowest range of 0 - 0.1 E or 0 - 10 APHA Hazen.
Process adoptions can be done by standard Varivent housing or customised flow cells, including features such as steam heating, flange connections, or such special materials as Hastelloy, or PVDF for aggressive samples.
An EEx-d version for hazardous areas will follow in few months.
