The new IE/AS-i link Profinet IO router from Siemens Automation and Drives offers a compact connection providing users with an integrated exchange of information and diagnostics data

Siemens has launched a new communication interface which links AS-i communications with Profinet The new IE/AS-i link Profinet IO router from Siemens Automation and Drives offers a compact connection providing users with an integrated exchange of information and diagnostics data

The new device has been designed to enable the communication interface to link higher level systems with the lowest field level.

In accordance with AS-i specification 3.0, up to 62 slaves can be addressed with single or double masters.

Profinet I0 uses the device to exchange with the lower-level AS-interface slaves on a cyclical basis.

In addition, the acyclic services such as those that are used to parameterise or diagnose are also capable of carrying out AS-i master calls.

Users are then able to start up the lower level AS-i segment fully, via an integral operator display in the IE/AS-i-Link Profinet IO.

In addition, it is also possible for slaves to be parameterised via the display or for a complete IO test of all digital and analogue slaves can be carried out, without connection to the higher-level system.

During operation, the user is able to view detailed diagnostics information, which can help to immediately locate the fault location and reduce any downtime.

It is also possible to access these functions remotely via a standard browser.

An AS-interface segment can be integrated wirelessly into Profinet thanks to the combination with an upstream WLAN module, avoiding any costly cabling.
