A new compact radar level transmitter from Siemens
The new Sitrans LR250 radar level transmitter is designed for the continuous monitoring of liquids and slurries in storage and process vessels including those at high temperature and pressure
The Sitrans LR250 is a high frequency radar level transmitter, and features a small horn antenna and a threaded connection allowing installation directly into an existing opening within a tank.
One of the key features of this new unit is that there is no longer a need to remove the lid for programming - the transmitter can be configured using a non-intrusive infrared hand-held programmer.
The 2-wire, 25 GHz pulsed radar transmitter is designed for continuous monitoring of liquids and slurries within storage and process vessels, including high temperature and pressure tanks, up to a range of 20m (66ft).
The transmitter is ideal for use in small vessels and for measuring low dielectric constant media within the chemical, oil and gas, power and the food and beverage industries.
A key product benefit of the product is that it is easy to install, featuring a narrow horn and beam, enabling its installation anywhere on a tank.
The transmitter is also quick and easy to configure and can be operational within minutes after installation whilst remaining highly reliable and accurate.
Derek Moore commented: "The Sitrans LR250 is not the first 24-26 GHz radar on the market, but it does feature a number of significant performance advantages through its process intelligence echo processing.
The transmitter is the closest the industry has come to the concept of a plug and play transmitter, as the two-wire device is the easiest to install and quickest to configure within the market place".
Programming of the transmitter is simple through the use of the multi-lingual Quick Start Wizard, which guides users to programme the transmitter using minimal parameters.
As a result, the system can be up and running within just a few minutes.
Programming is possible via a small hand-held programmer, or remotely using the Simatic PDM, both of which operate without lifting the lid off the device, reducing the risk to the head electronics from exposure to an aggressive atmosphere.
Process Intelligence signal processing is also incorporated to evaluate dynamic echo signals, and applies algorithms to raw echoes to produce accurate and reliable level measurement readings.
The transmitter is ideally suited to chemical, pharmaceutical and hydrocarbon processing applications, including corrosive environments.
