Siemens Automation and Drives has enhanced its existing portfolio of safety integrated solutions with the launch of the Sirius 3RK3 modular safety system

Developed to sit alongside existing Siemens safety integrated solutions, ASi Safe or ProfiSafe, the Sirius 3RK3 system offers increased choice for what can be complex safety application decisions.

Sitting between a simple safety relay and a fail-safe controller, Sirius 3RK3 is suitable for use across all sectors and applications.

It is ideal for circumstances where several safety functions have to be evaluated, but expensive connection of several switching devices could prove cost prohibitive and time consuming.

The Sirius modular design offers application flexibility, as users only have to replace the devices applicable to that application.

However, if the application does change over time, more functions can be added to the modular unit.

The system is based on a central unit with eight safety-related inputs, one safety-related relay output and one safety-related solid-state output.

Users can connect to seven expansion modules that can deal with further safety functions and an interface module enables communication to additional higher-level controllers via Siemens Profibus.

Paul Hingley for Siemens comments: "Looking at enhancing or simply linking numerous safety applications can have significant impacts both in time through undertaking additional wiring, as well as the inevitable increased costs.

The Sirius 3RK3 modular system is a valuable addition to the existing suite of safety integrated solutions developed by Siemens which offers users the flexibility in terms of selecting suitable solutions, as well as the ability to save time and money".
