In 2001 Hima-Sella became the first company to be awarded the CASS certificate for functional safety management, in compliance with the international safety standard IEC 61508 Awarded by the accredited certifying body, Sira, it confirmed that Hima-Sella was fully committed to demonstrating best practice as put forward in the new standard, underpinned by the principles of integrity, transparency and consistency, embodied in the CASS certification process

Free Functional Safety Training at HazardEx 2008
The Sira technical training team will be hosting two training sessions at HazardEx, relating to the safety and commercial advantages of implementing IEC 61508 Functional Safety in the workplace
This independent, freestanding, safety-related system contained 4 separate emergency shutdown systems to oversee safe operation of the feed pumps, recycle gas compressor, furnace and emergency depressurising system.
When being considered as a supplier, the Hima-Sella CASS certification provided extra confirmation to the customer that they had the capability and processes in place, a well as their proven experience, to provide a system of such complexity as the one described.
CASS certification provides reassurance to the customer that the functional safety aspect of a safety-related system has been properly addressed.
In achieving Functional Safety Management Capability to the CASS Scheme, Hima-Sella has established sound practices to demonstrate that any system supplied complies with the requirements of IEC 61508.
The CASS Certificate awarded by Sira has brought many important benefits to Hima-Sella, such as improved internal processes and procedures, and clearer specification of safety requirements giving confidence that the safety system complies with the standard.
Implementation of IEC 61508 has enabled Hima-Sella to offer more cost-effective safety systems to clients, a factor which has contributed to the Hima-Sella success in securing new business, particularly with regard to requirements for SIL-rated systems.
The Sira Certification to CASS confirms that Hima-Sella is capable of providing customers with a safety system that has been realised within a simple, reliable and compliant safety management system.
