plant

Schenck Test Automation has delivered the first six engine test beds for a new Perkins Shibaura Engines, Ltd (PSEL) factory in Georgia, USA for the production of three and four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, naturally aspirated and turbo-charged indirect-injection engines A further four test beds will be in place by the end of 2005 to complete phase 2 of the impressive 12-bed turnkey facility

This is the first US production facility for PSEL, the joint venture between Perkins and Japanese manufacturer Ishikawajima Shibaura Machinery Company (ISM).
This latest Schenck TA contract follows the installation of 12 test beds at the PSEL facility in Peterborough.
Each of the new test beds comprises a Taskmaster 500 automation system with bar code reader and production software suite.
The test stand incorporates a 150 HP eddy-current dynamometer with a mechanical handling system and engine services for semi-automatic operation.
Even with a thorough 35 to 60 minute test cycle, PSEL is able to achieve an annual throughput of up to 2,500 engines per stand per shift, due to the equipment's robustness and reliability.
The new facility is planned to commence two-shift operation later this year.
The Schenck relationship with Perkins stretches back many years having supplied engine test systems for Perkins production facilities in Shrewsbury, Stafford and Peterborough.
