A new fully-automatic Tilt-and-Turn rig developed by Schenck engineers has been installed at the Land Rover Gaydon Design and Engineering Centre, to imitate on or off road experiences

A new fully-automatic "Tilt and Turn" rig developed by Schenck engineers has been installed at the Land Rover Gaydon Design and Engineering Centre The innovative system is based on a floating test bed design, controlled by electric servo motors

The result is the ability to put engines into all the orientations that they are likely to experience under normal conditions on or off the road.

Capable of handling up to 300kW, the rig will be used for the development of all Land Rover 4x4 engines.

Whilst Land Rover tells its customers that they can drive its 4x4 vehicles on slopes of 35 degrees, engines are tested up to 45 degrees through all compound angles.

The new automatic Schenck Tilt and Turn rig replaces a mechanical system and provides a valuable tool for engine development programmes at Land Rover.

The Tilt and Turn bed allows engines to be run under their own power or driven by the powerful Schenck Dynas3 350 AC dynamometer, with inverter system and LSR2003 throttle unit for precise electronic throttle control.

Another key feature of the test rig is that it is multi-functional and can also be used as a standard transient test bed.
