Schenck Balancing and Diagnostic Systems announces an innovative new solution that automatically adds epoxy resin to balance small and miniature armatures, fans and any other small rotor

Schenck Balancing and Diagnostic Systems announces an innovative new solution that automatically adds epoxy resin to balance small and miniature armatures, fans and any other small rotor that cannot be corrected by removing material Correction is achieved by the application of UV hardened, single component, epoxy resin to the rotor via a feeder system and quickly cured using UV light

The system provides high balancing accuracy together with process reliability for unbalance correction by the addition of material.

It is also ideal for applications where traditional methods of adding material, such as clips or two component balancing plasticine, can only be performed manually.

The new Schenck epoxy system incorporates a highly sensitive and accurate unbalance measuring instrument that transmits the precise amount and angular position of unbalance in the rotor to the correction station.

Following measurement of the unbalance the rotor is placed in the correction station and indexed to the correction position and the resin applied by a pneumatic feeder system, within accuracy of 1 milligram.

UV light is directed over the epoxy resin through an optical fibre cable to harden the resin.

In the case of 2 plane balancing the rotor is indexed to the second correction position and the process repeated.

The single component epoxy material used in the process has been designed with properties such as flow behaviour, density, weight and adhesion, formulated specifically for balancing.

It saves time by eliminating the need to mix several components and as it is a single component resin there is no wasted time in having to flush clean the storage container.

Coupled with this is a long "shelf" life of the resin within the container.

The robust and compact feeder head has been designed for low maintenance and is physically separated from the material storage tank to allow its application where space is limited.

The correction method is environmentally safe, meeting current occupational health and safety requirements.

"This is major breakthrough for balancing small and miniature rotors where it is extremely difficult to remove material from the component," said Nigel Best, business manager, Schenck Balancing and Diagnostic Systems.

"The new epoxy correction system provides a fast and accurate solution that can be easily integrated into semi or fully automatic processes".

With nearly 100 years experience, Schenck Balancing and Diagnostic Systems is the recognised world leader in balancing and diagnostic technology for everything from turbine blades through engine crankshafts to dentist drills.

Schenck Balancing and Diagnostic Systems has a solution for any product that requires balancing - weighing from just a few grams to thousands of tons and with diameters from 1cm to 10 metres.

All systems are backed up by expert technical support, calibration and maintenance services, specialist training as well as repair and refurbishment.

In addition, an in-house test centre at Banbury provides customers with a comprehensive contract balancing and consultancy service.
