The new SP300 smart positioner from Spirax Sarco offers extensive digital communications capabilities enabling it to be used in a wide variety of process automation environments.

The SP300 is compatible with HART, Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus protocols.

The smart positioner is also compatible with all pneumatic actuator types, including piston actuators.

This enables plants to standardise on the SP300, irrespective of valve type, reducing the cost of maintenance and spares stockholdings.

The unit carries an IP67 rating for protection against moisture and dust.

It is intrinsically safe with Ex ia and flameproof with Ex d ratings for use in explosive atmospheres.

An optional stainless steel enclosure ensures the positioner can be used in extremely harsh environments, for example offshore.

Using a Hall effect sensor enables the SP300 to be mounted up to 20m away from the valve, protecting it against excessive vibration or high temperatures or where access would otherwise be difficult.

The SP300 is one of the easiest intelligent valve positioners on the market to set up and use.

Commissioning can be performed remotely via the communications network or locally with a magnetic setting tool to toggle through the menu on the positioner display.

Set up time is reduced by the SP300 auto-stroke routine, which automatically sets the positioner to the valve, eliminating human error.

The auto-stroke feature can also be used to quickly recalibrate the valve, greatly reducing downtime and ensuring continued valve positioning accuracy.
