The Bran + Luebbe ProCam metering pump has been configured for dosing phosphoric acid into potable water, to produce an insoluble coating of lead phosphate as a coating protecting lead pipework

In order for operators of water treatment plants to comply with the compulsory standards relating to the concentration levels of lead in potable water, SPX Process Equipment configured its Bran + Luebbe ProCam metering pump for dosing phosphoric acid Introducing phosphoric acid into the water supply downstream of the treatment works is known to rectify contamination of drinking water from old lead pipes, but it does require high levels of accuracy and consistency if it is to have the desired effect

The EC Drinking Water Directive 98/83/EC requires that the maximum concentration of lead, currently set at a level of 50ug/l (micrograms per litre), has to be reduced from 25ug/l to 10ug/l by 2013.

Dosing phosphoric acid at a constant level of 1ug/l is known to create an insoluble coating of lead phosphate on the lead pipework.

The ProCam pump for phosphoric acid dosing contains mechanically coupled PTFE double diaphragms to guarantee high levels of accuracy and security.

It is, therefore, possible to accurately dose phosphoric acid into the water supply either continuously or in batch mode.

The pump is controlled by motor speed for proportional metering and electric stroke adjustment for maintaining concentration levels, which maintain dosage to within the 0.8 - 1.2ug/l target level set by legislation.

Double PTFE diaphragms ensure high resistance to chemical attack, leak free performance and continued operation even in a failure condition.
