Easy clean metering pump for hygienic duties
SPX Process Equipment have introduced a dedicated sanitary model of the Bran + Luebbe ProCam pump that is EHEDG compliant, using food grade components and ultra-smooth surfaces
The personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, food and beverage industries can now take advantage of the high levels of precision metering offered by the Bran + Luebbe ProCam pumps, following the SPX Process Equipment introduction of a dedicated sanitary model that is EHEDG compliant.
Using food-grade components that have ultra-smooth surfaces and modified flow geometries that permit clean-in-place (CIP) of the membrane pumpheads and valves, the new ProCam Sanitary can deliver up to 500L/h at pressures of up to 20 bar.
Applications for which the pump can be used include perfume solutions for creams and soaps, nutrient solutions in biochemical processes, buffer solutions in chromatography and solvents and extracts for pharmaceuticals.
"ProCam pumps are designed specifically for the purpose of metering precise volumes of liquids into process streams, which is not the case with other types of positive displacement pumps," comments Bran + Luebbe UK Pumps Manager Steve Digby.
"As many as six pumps can be combined for the on-line production of complete formulations, plus they offer a wide range of flow rates and different methods of adjusting the flow, thereby optimising plant efficiency".
The ProCam Sanitary cleanability and corrosion resistance is achieved by using specially selected materials with polished finishes.
Depending on the application, components coming into contact with the product are made from high grade stainless steel with a roughness factor (Ra) of 0.8microns.
In all cases, the PTFE dual layer membranes and valve seats are FDA certified.
"The construction of the membrane pumpheads and the valves has been modified for hygienic applications by improving the flow characteristics to ensure complete cleanability," says Steve Digby.
"In addition, pump connections are available with clamp or dairy pipe fittings and we have also modified the paint coating procedure, using FDA approved paint, to satisfy pump applications.
As a result, the ProCam Sanitary can be used with CIP up to 150C and SIP with saturated steam of at least 120C".
Bran + Luebbe ProCam pumps, which use a compact drive design and hermetically sealed pumpheads are associated with high reliability and low maintenance.
Membrane condition monitoring, which is standard, can be performed in a number of ways including a hose clip and manometer, remote monitoring using a contact manometer or a pressure switch with EExi protection.
As a result of the short stroke and the dual laminated PTFE membrane construction the typical maintenance interval is 20,000 hours of operation.
If for any reason the membrane should become damaged the rupture indicator is immediately triggered, but a hermetic seal is maintained, giving the user the choice of stopping to replace the membrane or continuing operation until the next planned production stop.
"The ProCam Sanitary is highly adaptable and where fitted with electric stroke length adjustment and integrated controller with 4.20mA input/output signals, can be incorporated into a closed-loop system," comments Steve Digby.
"These models are also available to comply with ATEX 94/9/EG.".
