Edible oil refinery installs Profibus PA
systems
With more than 200 field devices, Cocamar edible oil refinery has one of the largest Profibus PA installations in Brazil, using Smar transmitters and a Siemens PLC
One of most important edible oil refineries in South America, Cocamar, is located in Maringa city, Brazil: a recent investment of approximately U$3.5 million involved a new vegetable oil refinery, a multi combustible boiler system, an energy debasing system and a big cereal dryer Processing capacity has increased from 200 to 420 tons of oil per day

Over 400 transmitters for ConocoPhillips Ekofisk
Through Autek, their Norwegian representative Smar will supply more than 400 pressure and temperature transmitters to the Ekofisk 2/4M offshore platform in the North Sea, operated by ConocoPhillips
In the project, Smar supplied Profibus PA devices for the process automation solution.
A Profibus system is installed in the soy and multi oil refinery where the flow, acid and soybean dosing controls as well as the water, steam, level and temperature control are performed.
Smar provided pressure, level, flow transmitters (LD303) and temperature transmitter (TT303) as well as the positioners (FY303).
For control loops where 4-20mA transmitters were used, Smar provided their exclusive converters, IF303 (4-20mA converter to Profibus PA) and FI303 (Profibus PA converter to 4-20mA) to complete the integration.
All other manufacturers field devices are integrated, for example equipment from Siemens, P+F, Krohne and Metroval.
The system operates with a Siemens PLC (S7-400) and also with the ASI network from P+F.
The Profibus PA segment, containing the Smar devices, was configured using the Simatic PDM tool.
The new plant has been operating since September 2001.
"System interoperability and startup were excellent and the plant is operating very effectively.
The cost benefits and the simplicity of Profibus were confirmed and we are now using it for maintenance observations, which has been very useful" says the Cocamar automation engineer Jose Candido.
