Introducing the Continuum tray magazine

A Standard-Knapp product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team May 21, 2007

The new Standard-Knapp tray magazine brings ergonomic tray loading and consistent high-speed delivery to a wide range of packaging applications including corrugated, chipboard, and pads

Integrated into the Continuum family of tray packers, change-over can be completed in less than a minute and requires no change parts.

The Standard-Knapp Continuum tray magazine features a vertical tray stack for ergonomic loading of trays from pallets.

At waist level, the operator simply moves the blanks from the pallet to the magazine without turning the trays or bending over.

"Machine tool" quality components ensure precise dimensions of the final assembly, which is much more tolerant of material variation versus competitive designs.

The Continuum tray magazine has side actuators provide complete support for a full tray stack of tray blanks.

The actuator ratchet tray blanks downward on demand, with only two inches of tray blanks resting in the "pull-down" area.

This feature eliminates the stack weight and makes pull-down reliable at high speeds.

The tray magazine also features positive "Pac-Man," meaning the lugs that transport the trays during product merge have a positive grip on the tray for consistent delivery.

The system also maximises efficiency at high speeds with minimal suction cup motion during tray pull-down.

Two innovative highlights of the tray magazine include a tray magazine blank retainer, which guides trays into the magazine with no "walking" and maximum filling; and Increased stroke and cam-driven suction cups that increase tolerance for warped trays, increase efficiency on large trays, reduce double-tray pick-up and increase overall system uptime.
