New hygienic ceiling coating for clean rooms
The Suspended Ceiling Restoration Company has launched a brand new anti-microbial product that protects ceiling tiles against bacteria, fungi and mould, for Hospitals and clean rooms
This BioCote silver-based coating is a revolutionary product for the protection of ceiling tiles, born out of the newly formed partnership between BioCote and the Suspended Ceiling Restoration Company.
The SCR coating is now the most effective ceiling product available in the fight against healthcare-associated infections such as MRSA and Legionella and will have knock-on benefits for other industries where clean room conditions have to be maintained.
The SCR spray on coating can be applied to a complete ceiling (in bulk liquid form) or on individual ceiling tiles from the patent pending SO-10 spray can version.
This unique coating inhibits the growth of bacteria, reducing the risk of cross contamination in the environment and will be available to all environments where the growth of bacteria is a concern including clean production environments, healthcare facilities, restaurants, schools, supermarkets, laboratories, and public buildings.
By incorporating the SCR coating technology, suspended ceilings can be restored to "better than new" condition at approximately 30% of the costs associated with the replacement of the existing ceiling tiles.
The alliance with BioCote provides the added assurance that the restored ceiling will have a far greater antimicrobial effect than any new fibre ceiling tile available.
During the application of the SCR coating, disruption to the area is completely minimised ensuring that valuable production time is not lost, whilst at the same time maintaining the acoustic and fire rating properties of the freshly coated ceilings.
The BioCote additive is incorporated into the SCR ceiling coatings during the manufacturing process.
This inorganic technology is based on silver ions, ensuring that the active ingredients will not leach out of the coating, rub off or degrade over time.
The antimicrobial efficacy will remain for the lifetime of the restored ceiling tiles and supporting metal grid framework.
BioCote has been independently tested and has the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria on surfaces by up to 99.9% over a 24-hour period, in comparison to unprotected surfaces where they can proliferate at drastic rates.
BioCote antimicrobial agent is effective against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms including MRSA, E-coli, Legionella, Salmonella, Campylobacter and Listeria.
Mark Beighton, Managing Director of SCR comments: "The partnership with BioCote has given our customers an added assurance that their existing facilities can be maintained at a higher level of cleanliness than many newly constructed building.
I am proud to be able to support them in their consistent drive to eliminate cross-contamination, whether that be in a public area or within a production environment.
At the same time we are providing huge environmental impact benefits, due to the fact that the existing tiles are not being added to the waste stream".
A 12 month trial recently performed by the Heart of England Trust, the first of its kind in the UK, showed that an out-patient ward at Heartlands Hospital which contained furniture and equipment with BioCote antimicrobial protection, had 95.8% less bacteria present within the environment than a similar ward which did not have BioCote protection.
Mathew Harte, Managing Director at BioCote added: "BioCote is delighted to be partnering with SCR to provide an innovative new product that will help control cross-contamination".
