Staubli robots get significantly smaller

A Staubli UK (Robotics) product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Aug 2, 2007

Staubli are well known for their TX/RX ranges of high speed, high precision 6-axis robots, as well as the SCARA 4-axis robots: now they introduce the ultra-compact RS20

A new, high performance, mini-SCARA robot has been added to the growing model range of robots from Staubli.

Space is often at a premium when automation systems are being designed and integrated.

The new RS20 provides all the benefits of a Staubli SCARA robot but in ultra compact form, ideal for use on table or bench top automation.

With a footprint of just 250mm x 150mm, weighing just 15kgs and a reach of 220mm and payload of 1kg, the RS20 is ideal for automation tasks such as dispensing, testing, packaging and assembly.

It is even small enough to be incorporated inside a machining centre and runs on 230V single phase supply.

The RS20 uses the same control platform and programming language as other Staubli robots.

The CS8CM controller is a compact lightweight design based on the Staubli CS8 platform.

The CS8 controls platform is the industry's most technologically advanced PC based control system which is ideally suited for applications that require complex process control.

The CS8 uses VAL3 programming language which is perfectly adapted to robotics and includes many communication options including fieldbus, Ethernet, offline programming and ModBus for ease of integration and use.

It's not just the robot's compactness that is remarkable, but also the fact that all cables run internally inside the arm, including the electrical / pneumatic user lines, ensuring the highest availability and failure protection.

Staubli robots are known for their unrivalled speed and precision, this Mini-SCARA has a repeatability of +/- 0.01 mm.

The new Ultra-Compact Mini-SCARA RS20 expands the comprehensive Staubli SCARA robot range, now including the RS20, RS40B, RS60 and RS80 models with reaches from 220mm to 800mm and payloads from 1kg to 8 kg.

Backed by Staubli worldwide service support, the RS20 provides automation engineers with a new tool when designing those small scale precision assembly, packaging and testing tasks.

Staubli is an international family owned group founded over 100 years ago in Switzerland employing 3500 world-wide.

Robotic production is centred south of Geneva in the French Alps, with facilities across Europe, North and South America and the Far East.

Over 16,000 Staubli robots have been installed worldwide.

Many end users are standardising on Staubli for all their multi-axis automation requirements.

They are realising the benefits that flow from a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the wide-ranging capabilities of these advanced, user friendly robots.
