Ocean Power Delivery ltd is a company who have designed and built a device to create electricity using offshore wave power.
In 2003 OPD were trying to prove the potential of their device, they contacted Synectic Design through one of our technical partners to cater for their specialist requirements.

Synectic Design Solutions Waste Management System
Synectic Design are industry leaders in weighing batch control systems, and have produced a bespoke system design for Cepac in Rotherham to analyse and monitor cardboard packaging waste
Initially laboratory tests were carried out on small scale models, followed shortly by sea trials on larger scale models.
The company required a device to measure structural stresses and amplify the signal for monitoring and further data processing.
Synectic Design's design team adapted a standard SY011 versatile in-line bridge amplifier to meet their requirements.
Our design team are currently developing a digitally tareable amplifier for remote control operation, so that the wave power unit can be monitored through simple logic signals.
The progress of the trials can be seen on OPD's website at oceanpd.com.
Vauxhall required a force measurement device to gauge the closing forces required for their boot lids.
The device is to be used to test and aid adjustment of the boot lid closing mechanism.
Vauxhall approached Synectic Design through one of our technical partners, with whom we work very closely.
The device is a completely new bespoke design for Vauxhall, the loadcell used in the device comes from our partner company.
The unit has the potential to vastly improve the efficiency of production, improving both costs and time.
Process improvement is one of the main developments the motor industry strives for.
The prototype is soon to be introduced into the Ellesmere Port manufacturing plant, in the north west of the UK.
Once the trial period has been completed we expect Vauxhall will require more units, as it provides them with an extremely cost effective solution.
In 2000 Synectic Design were approached through a technical partner to tender for a project to design a system to test and stress the strings in Airbus wings, for BAE Systems.
The system is designed to measure the residual stresses in the wing-strings and then apply a load to the strings using hydraulics to reduce the stresses to zero.
The system used an adapted SY005 batch weight controller and SY018 balance amplifiers to adjust the hydraulics according to the input signals from the strain gauges on the actuator of the machine.
Synectic Design successfully won the contract and the system has been running at the BAE Systems Broughton manufacturing plant near Chester in the north west of the UK since 2000.
Synectic Design recently secured a contract for all such wing-string test equipment at the plant.
