The BP Clair oil and gas project off Shetland is being equipped with a complete portfolio of Anderson Greenwood Instrumentation valves, manifolds and enclosures from Tyco Valves and Controls

A project at the largest undeveloped oil and gas resource on the UK continental shelf off Shetland is being equipped with a complete portfolio of Anderson Greenwood Instrumentation valves, manifolds and enclosures from Tyco Valves and Controls, a business unit of Tyco Engineered Products and Services Over 500 Monoflanges and several hundred Largebore Intellimount units for direct mounting of process instrumentation were specified to measure liquids and gases for the BP Clair project

The equipment was chosen to significantly reduce the number of potential leakage points, threaded connections and impulse lines, and also to enhance safety at the new platform.

The Monoflanges will be acting as primary double block and bleed valves for either direct or remote mounting of instruments.

Ideally suited to on- and offshore oil and gas high pressure wellhead and 'Christmas tree' applications, the Monoflange is a compact manifold of piping-specification valves that replaces conventional multiple valve fabricated assemblies and enables high integrity isolation of instruments from pipelines.

Anderson Greenwood Monoflanges are manufactured in high strength materials to suit API and ANSI specifications to process pressures up to 10,000 psi.

Largebore Intellimount units from Anderson Greenwood are employed at the Clair project for close-coupling of differential pressure transmitters.

The high-integrity, close-coupled, differential pressure transmitter mounting system is suitable for gas, liquid or steam measurement, and completely eliminates the need for impulse lines.

The Largebore Intellimount has a maximum of two modular sections, a double block and bleed piping unit and an equalise and vent manifold unit, and does not require additional flange connectors, brackets or pipe supports.

Compared to conventional transmitter-impulse line mounting systems, the unit reduces the number of leak points by 75% and can decrease installation cost by as much as 80%.

To protect the measurement instrumentation, Tyco has supplied heated Anderson Greenwood instrument enclosures.

The enclosures were supplied fully populated with manifolds, heaters, transmitters and all electrical wiring ready to install.

The Clair oil and gas field lies 75km off the coast of the Shetland Islands, and is estimated to contain 250 million recoverable barrels of oil.

The project is a co-venture between Conoco, Chevron UK, Enterprise Oil, Ameranda Hess and field operators BP.

The field is expected to deliver its first oil towards the end of 2004, with plateau production estimated at 60 thousand barrels of oil and 15 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Anderson Greenwood Instrumentation products are available from Tyco Valves and Controls, the leading name in the manufacture and supply of valves, actuators and controls.
