Tyco - an AVID provider of the latest technology

Floating suction units are designed to draw off aviation fuel whilst preventing possible contamination by sediment or water - which may condense within the tank.
The Style 4 units comprise a 24 inch (61 cm) aluminium pipe anchored to the inside of the tank via a swivel mechanism with a float attached close to the intake.
As the level of the fuel within the tank varies, the intake remains just below the surface in an optimum position to minimise the risk of transmitting possible contaminants.
The six larger tanks, which are sited in the area between Terminal 1 and the new Terminal 5, are fifty metres in diameter and fitted with two floating suction units, each of which can deliver a staggering 2600 cubic metres of fuel per hour.
The pipes are manufactured from copper-free aluminium alloy and feature an all-welded construction.
The high quality swivel mechanism has a stainless steel ball joint and the entire construction is earth-bonded.
Tanks were built by Mowlem Construction who also installed the Whessoe - Varec floating suction units for main contractor Laing O'Rourke.
Terminal 5 will comprise a main terminal building and two satellite buildings which will be connected via an underground Track Transit System.
In addition, the project includes extensions to the LU Piccadilly Line and Heathrow Express, a six-platform rail station, an M25 spur road and a new 87-metre air traffic control tower.
Terminal 5 will provide Heathrow airport with 60 additional aircraft stands and the capacity to handle 35 million passengers annually.
It is intended that British Airways will transfer all its Heathrow services into Terminal 5 from 2008, enabling the airline to offer those passengers connecting between British Airways' services easier transfers and reduced connection times - as significantly fewer passengers will need to move between separate terminals.
