Versatile safety controller saves time and money
The Preventa XPS-MC safety controller from Telemecanique offers a simple, cost-effective way of meeting control system safety requirements up to and including Category 4, in accordance with EN 954-1
The new Preventa XPS-MC safety controller from Telemecanique, a brand of Schneider Electric, offers a simple, cost-effective way of meeting control system safety requirements up to and including Category 4, in accordance with EN 954-1.
It also features the ability to provide multiple independent safety functions and a software-based configuration system, eliminating the need for complex wiring.
Easy to configure and install, the XPS-MC also offers comprehensive diagnostic facilities that make it simple to monitor its performance while in use.
Local diagnostic data is provided by LEDs that allow instant visual status confirmation.
Remote diagnostics are performed with the aid of detailed status information, which can be accessed by either a PLC, HMI or a PC.
XPS-MCWIN, a user-friendly software package which runs under Microsoft Windows, makes it simple to match the functions of the XPS-MC controller to the precise needs of the application.
Specifically designed so that it requires no specialist programming know-how, XPS-MCWIN makes extensive use of straightforward icon-based drag-and-drop techniques.
Its software-based configuration system means that a single XPS-MC controller can handle several independent safety functions, providing big cost reductions compared with the use of separate safety devices for each function.
In addition, the software-based approach eliminates the complex wiring associated with traditional safety relays and controllers, thereby substantially reducing installation and commissioning time.
For maximum user convenience, the XPS-MCWIN software package offers an in-built library of functions that cover a wide range of popular safety applications.
These include single- and dual-channel emergency stops, safety guard switches, two-hand control, light curtains, magnetic switches, safety mats and press control.
Whichever functions are selected, the configuration is fully validated when downloaded to the XPS-MC controller and it is password protected to prevent unauthorised alterations.
The software package also generates comprehensive documentation, providing convenient error-free records for the safety system.
To allow accurate and economical matching to the application, the compact Preventa XPS-MC controllers are available in versions with 16 or 32 digital inputs.
Both versions have six semiconductor safety outputs, ideal for use where high switching frequencies are needed, plus four redundant relay safety outputs with a larger load-breaking capacity.
