Profibus Installers Course goes International

A The Profibus Group product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jan 7, 2003

The Certified Profibus Installer Course developed at Manchester Metropolitan University has been accredited by Profibus International for use worldwide: dates for Manchester courses announced

Developed at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in response to the direct industry need for competent installation engineers, the one-day Profibus Installer course is currently being translated into German and French.

A training tour of South Africa has been organised for January 2003 by the Regional Profibus Association in South Africa.

It is estimated that 95% of all fieldbus faults are concerned with wiring and installation problems.

These installation problems occur in all fieldbus systems - not just Profibus.

The Installer course aims to develop awareness of the common but easily avoided difficulties.

It teaches how to design, layout and test Profibus networks, how to avoid common but frequent pitfalls.

Competence is assessed at the end of the course by means of written and practical examination.

Since the first course in October 2001, over 70 people have successfully graduated.

The Installer course is also offered to companies and other organisations "on-site" and already several UK companies have taken advantage of the reduced cost incurred by on-site training.

In addition, MMU runs The "Certified Profibus Engineer Course", an intensive 31/2-day course that looks under the bonnet of Profibus, concentrating on the details of network operation and the analysis of bus signals.

Again written and practical testing assures the competence of successful candidates.

This course was developed at the Profibus Interface Centre in the USA and is currently offered in Germany, Switzerland USA and of course England.

Profibus Course Dates at MMU during Spring 2003 are: for the Certified Profibus Installer: 21 February; 28 March; 9 May: and for the Certified Profibus Engineer: 25-28 Feb; 1-4 April; 29 April - 2 May.

Registration is via Profibus UK on 01489 589574, e-mail uk@profibus.com or on-line at www.kognosys.co.uk/catalog.htm.
