Profibus on wireless networks
Wireless communications is a very popular subject currently, and the Profibus User Conference from 27-28 June will have two significant presentations applying wireless techniques to Profibus systems
Both papers will be presented on 28 June: Alan Bollard, MD of Westermo Data Communications, will discuss methods of extending the range of Profibus DP systems further than the 1200 metre limit typically available with standard twisted pair cable After reviewing the use of fibre-optics and modems, Alan will explore some of the possible solutions available by using wireless techniques

Then Ormond O'Neill from Siemens will present a paper entitled "Industrial Wireless Networking Applications".
Industrial wireless LAN systems require a very high reliability from the wireless channel.
In addition, industrially installed components need to be of robust construction with extended temperature ranges, high vibration and shock resistance and protection from condensation, to work on a typical plant.
In his presentation, Ormond will explain how these demands made by industry are addressed, and will present real IWLAN applications where such equipment has been applied.
The Profibus User Conference will be held at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire on 27-28 June: the full programme of events is available, with registration forms, on the Profibus UK website.
Apart from two days of user presentations about Profibus and Profinet projects and application experience, there are parallel training lectures providing hands-on experience of using and installing Profibus equipment, plus an Exhibition of equipment available from many of the major suppliers.
