Profibus UK has announced a new schedule of training events through to June 2007, including three new courses offered at the Profibus Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University

Profibus UK has announced a new schedule of training events through to June 2007 Three new courses are offered at the Profibus Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU): the full range of courses available is as follows

* Certified Profibus Engineer.

* Certified Profibus Installer.

* Profibus Commissioning.

* Basic PLC Programming.

* Certified Open-PLC Engineer.

* The Profinet Workshop.

* Certified Profinet Engineer.

* Practical Aspects of Profibus PA.

CERTIFIED PROFIBUS ENGINEER.

Engineers wishing to build their careers around Profibus, companies wanting to benchmark their technical staff or consultants seeking a recognised professional qualification in industrial networking can now train for Certified Profibus Engineer status.

The course covering Profibus DP will be available five times: 18 - 21 Sept 06, 20 - 23 Nov 06, 15 - 18 Jan 07, 12 - 15 Mar 07, 14 - 17 May 07: (The course is also available on-site by pre-arrangement for up to 8 people).

The Process Automation (PA) Module of the Certified Profibus Engineer is an extra day for engineers that wish to extend their knowledge and accreditation to include Process Automation, and these must be booked in conjunction with Certified Profibus Engineer DP course.

These extra days are scheduled for 22 Sept 06, 24 Nov 06, 19 Jan 07, 16 Mar 07, 18 May 07.

CERTIFIED PROFIBUS INSTALLER.

An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include fieldbus installation.

This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete Profibus networks including DP/FMS, PA and optical fibre technology.

Covering bus layout and termination, grounding rules and practices, the course will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.

The Certified Profibus Installer course is scheduled for 2 Oct 06, 27 Nov 06, 8 Jan 07, 26 Feb 07, 9 May 07, and is also available on-site for up to 12 people.

PROFIBUS COMMISSIONING.

The Profibus Commissioning course is a new one-day course designed as an add-on to the Certified Profibus Installer Course, and covering the practical techniques of faultfinding on "operational" Profibus networks.

Techniques taught on the course include the use of a modern Profibus analyser and Class-II master (engineering tool) to diagnose network faults, device faults and I/O problems.

Students also learn how to use a soft digital storage oscilloscope in conjunction with these tools to diagnose and accurately locate cable, connection and device faults.

The Profibus Commissioning course will take place on 3 Oct 06, 9 Jan 07, 10 May 07 and is also available on-site for up to 8 people.

BASIC PLC PROGRAMMING.

The Basic PLC Programming Course is a new two-day course designed for those with no previous programming experience.

It covers basic ladder and function block programming and leads on to the Certified Open-PLC Engineer Course - Further details below.

The Basic PLC Programming Course is scheduled from 9 - 10 Oct 06, 22 - 23 Jan 07, and 21 - 22 May 07: it is also available on-site for up to 8 people.

CERTIFIED OPEN-PLC ENGINEER.

The certified Open-PLC Engineer training, a 3 day course covering Open-PLC programming using the international standard IEC 61131-3 has been introduced by the Profibus Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in the UK.

The course is designed for Engineers and Technicians who want to gain a recognised qualification in open-PLC programming using IEC 61131-3.

The course is suitable for experienced programmers who wish to move to IEC 61131-3 compliant systems.

Courses will be held from 11 - 13 Oct 06, 24 - 26 Jan 07, 23 - 25 May 07: it is also available on-site for up to 8 people.

THE PROFINET WORKSHOP.

This is a one day workshop introducing Profinet, the Profibus International Ethernet-based automation solution, which will be held on 11 Dec 06.

CERTIFIED PROFINET ENGINEER.

The Certified Profinet Engineer Course provides in-depth tuition on Profinet including written and practical tests leading to accreditation for successful candidates.

This course is scheduled from 5 - 9 Feb 07.

PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF PROFIBUS PA.

The seminar entitled 'Practical Aspects of Profibus PA in Process' addresses the key practical issues arising from the use of digital fieldbus communications technologies in process and hybrid industries.

Covering the use of Profibus PA in key application areas such as pulp and paper, chemical, utilities, pharmaceutical, oil and gas today, it focuses on the practical aspects of using Profibus in process industry applications from system design and hazardous area considerations through to maintenance and fault-finding.

Supported by live demonstrations of actual tools used in calibration and maintenance, the programme will be of great value to Instrument Technicians/Engineers, C+I Engineers and System Engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of modern process plant.
