Developments in Profibus instrumentation
Hear how Profibus communications has affected the development and capabilities of instrumentation, at the Profibus User Conference, Exhibition and Training event, from 26-27 June
The Profibus International User Conference will see instrumentation suppliers explaining the data available over Profibus PA from their instruments, and discussing how the availability of Profibus PA has affected instrument development.
From Ontario, Canada, James Powell is Product Manager, Communications from Siemens Milltronics Process Instruments, where Siemens produce their Milltronics level and open channel flow measurement instrumentation.
James will explain how Profibus lets you see things happening in field instruments like never before, and how instrument manufacturers have used this to improve instrument operations, and enable remote monitoring and optimisation of their performance.
A similar approach from Gareth Johnston of ABB Instrumentation and Automation will explain the diagnostic/maintenance data that can be found within intelligent field devices using Profibus PA, whether those devices are monitoring pressure, temperature, flow, or whether they are a valve positioner or network component.
This data can be used for plant equipment condition monitoring, and routed towards applications such as computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS).
But further the diagnostic data can also give diagnostic information about the process itself.
Gareth will explain which information is required and how the ABB software can use it to prevent failures and reduce plant downtime.
Featuring a comprehensive, multi-stream educational programme that will lead users through Profibus from the basic technology through to its use in real world industrial and process applications, the two-day Profibus International User Group Conference features such application-oriented technical presentations and hands-on workshops, all presented by technology experts and experienced users and systems builders from a wide variety of application areas.
The whole conference will cover the latest developments in Profibus, Profinet and Profisafe technology for factory and process automation.
The programme places great emphasis on serving the needs of the user community, i.e companies that own, operate, design, build or maintain manufacturing facilities and process plant.
The aim is to assist companies making the transition from conventional to fieldbus systems as easy (and jargon free) as possible.
The sessions will include audience participation and so there will be opportunities to explore for yourself how Profibus and Profinet equipment and techniques are used in practice.
The carefully organised schedule means that you can attend hands-on sessions without having to miss an important presentation, and also spare time to visit the Exhibition of associated fieldbus equipment.
