MMU offers Profibus courses

A The Profibus Group product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Nov 14, 2008

Manchester Metropolitan University is offering a few places on the following professional courses at its Profibus International Competence Centre:

The Certified Profibus Installer course, 25 November, is essential for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include Fieldbus installation.

This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete Profibus networks including DP/FMS, PA and optical fibre technology.

Covering bus layout and termination, grounding rules and practices, the course will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.

The Commissioning and Maintenance course, 26 November, is designed as an add-on to the Certified Profibus Installer course, and covers the practical techniques of faultfinding on 'operational' Profibus networks.

Techniques taught on the course include the use of a modern Profibus analyser and Class-II master (engineering tool) to diagnose network faults, device faults and I/O problems.

Students also learn how to use a soft digital storage oscilloscope in conjunction with these tools to diagnose and accurately locate cable, connection and device faults.

The Certified Profibus Engineer course, 1 to 5 December, is for engineers and technicians who already have a thorough basic technical knowledge of Profibus or other fieldbus systems.

The course covers the detailed theory of Profibus DP and PA network operation.

Students will learn first-hand how to design, install and troubleshoot Profibus networks, and how to use diagnostic tools to detect faults and identify their causes.

Day one covers the Certified Profibus Installer course, which is prerequisite to completing the Engineer course.

Those who pass the final written examination and practical test will gain a valuable and internationally recognised certificate of their competence to design and troubleshoot Profibus networks.

Graduates of the course will also have the right to have their name listed in the Certified Profibus Engineer section of the Profibus website.
