Better petrochemical sample analysis productivity
Thermo Electron offers solutions aimed at increasing productivity and characterisation in the analysis of petrochemical samples, using ultra-fast and comprehensive two-dimensional GC technology
Thermo Electron offers several solutions aimed at increasing productivity and characterisation in the analysis of petrochemical samples.
These solutions, not available in conventional GC analysis, incorporate advanced ultra-fast and comprehensive two-dimensional GC technology to offer the rapid and enhanced complex sample analyses routinely performed by the petrochemical industry.
The Thermo Trace GC Ultra utilises UltraFast GC technology to perform ASTM D2887, the standard test method for boiling range distribution of petroleum fractions by GC as dictated in the ASTM international standard.
The standard describes simulated distillation, a GC method used to characterise petroleum fractions and products providing quick determination of their boiling range distribution, which is a rapid analytical tool widely used in the control of refining operations and specification testing.
Ultra Fast GC technology allows the operator to perform the analysis in less than two minutes, which is 20 times faster than conventional GC methods.
This ultimately saves valuable analysis time and money without any loss of precision or accuracy.
Another solution aimed at enhancing petrochemical analysis capability is the use of comprehensive two-dimensional GC to analyse complex hydrocarbon mixtures.
The Trace GCxGC from Thermo delivers up to 20 times higher separation power than a conventional GC, combining the efficiency of two independent columns installed in series.
This feature is particularly advantageous for getting a detailed characterisation of complex matrices without requiring pre-separation of the classes of hydrocarbons prior to the GCxGC analysis.
A powerful data system is able to automatically generate chromatograms with highly organised patterns on a two-dimensional retention plane, where each component or family of homologous components have a unique precise position according to their chemical and physical properties.
This allows for a much easier and reliable identification, making GCxGC extremely suitable for both sample screening and group type analysis.
