Anti-abrasion coatings centre opened near Houston

Technogenia has opened a new Lasercarb Technology Center in Conroe (Texas) just north of Houston, to better serve the oil and gas industry with anti-abrasion coatings

This facility houses a unique machine that deposits anti-abrasion material onto industrial parts.

Its prime location in the heart of the oil and gas industry makes it convenient for those companies to keep their parts protected for optimal performance and longer lifespan in such hard-wear applications as cutting, drilling, and scraping.

The Technogenia Lasercarb Technology Centre is the first in the United States to use the latest diode laser technology.

It includes a 4 kW high-power diode laser coupled with custom designed five-coordinate axis NC machine and can handle parts up to 40 feet long and weighing as much as 5000 pounds.

Lasercarb is a laser cladding process that utilises a laser power source to apply the Technogenia Spherotene powder.

The unique coating is composed of variable sizes of spherical tungsten carbide particles held in place by a nickel base matrix.

The powder is injected through a coaxial nozzle into the laser beam.

The combination of the laser power and the digital control generates a highly controlled deposit.

This technology coupled with an advanced CAD/CAM system allows a precise coating on the most complex geometry.

Therefore the Lasercarb process insures consistency and high quality on each part.

Lasercarb is the answer for parts under the most abrasive conditions.

Some applications include protecting rotors, scrapers, shaft bearings, stabilisers, sleeves, and non-magnetic stainless steel components.

The spherical tungsten carbide particles produced by Technogenia exhibit a hardness of 3000 +/-500 Hv.

The spherical shape produces a high-density deposit reducing stress and cracking.
