Off-the-shelf solutions on show at Analytica

A Thermo Fisher Scientific (Informatics) product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Feb 20, 2006

Thermo Electron will showcase its purpose-built, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software solutions for the first time in Europe at Analytica, April 25-28 in Munich

Thermo Electron Corporation, the leading provider of analytical instrumentation and informatics worldwide, will showcase its purpose-built, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software solutions for the first time in Europe at Analytica, Booth 105-204, Hall B1, April 25-28, at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in Germany.

Analytica is the world's largest trade show for solutions in the analysis, laboratory-technology and life-science sectors.

As the leading provider of analytical instruments, equipment, robotics, software and services to these industries, the Thermo exhibit will feature laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and chromatography data systems (CDS) that integrate not only with Thermo products for an end-to-end solution, but with the customer enterprise to yield increased productivity and greater knowledge from laboratory data.

The Thermo informatics focus is to offer COTS software that reduces reliance on costly and risky customisations.

"Visitors to the Thermo booth will find tailored LIMS for pharmaceutical manufacturing, bioanalysis, in vitro ADME research, and biotechnology applications, as well as for industrial process-oriented laboratories," said Dave Champagne, vice president and general manager of the Thermo Informatics business.

"Our value proposition is the reduction in cost, risk and time of implementations, as well as total cost of ownership, that are associated with extensive customisation.

This is achieved by offering COTS solutions that include a much higher proportion of required functionality in the base system".

The Thermo Informatics exhibit will feature.

* Darwin LIMS -- the latest Thermo COTS solution, designed specifically for pharmaceutical manufacturing R and D and QA/QC.

* SampleManager LIMS -- the Thermo flagship solution for industrial labs, with version 9.0 adopting the open, industry standard Microsoft .NET platform while continuing to support existing code cherished by customers written in the VGL language .

* Atlas CDS -- the Thermo enterprise chromatography data system, offering superior integration with SampleManager and Darwin for maximum productivity in any industry.

* Migration Agent - a new software and professional services solution that reduces risk and overcomes business challenges when migrating from any existing LIMS to a Thermo solution.
