Centrifuge orders from India, China and Thailand

A Thomas Broadbent and Sons product story

With increasing Far Eastern demand for Pure Terephthalic Acid, several large projects in excess of 500kT/year have resulted in orders for Thomas Broadbent centrifuges totalling over GBP12M

With increasing Far Eastern demand for Pure Terephthalic Acid, several large projects in excess of 500kT/year are now proceeding - including plants in Northern India, the Hengsheng area of China and Thailand.

To help meet the demand for this oil-derived chemical, used in the manufacture of polyester fibres, UK Centrifuge manufacturer Broadbent has been awarded orders in excess of GBP12M.

"More than 30 of the world's largest PTA Centrifuges are currently being manufactured in our Huddersfield works," says Broadbent Business Manager John Wright.

"Broadbent success in this specialist market is firmly based on our ability to offer the most cost-effective and technically advanced centrifuge packages available and with new orders from chemical and textile companies in India, China and Thailand, we are fast establishing ourselves as a world leader in the supply of specialised decanters for use in his type of process".

"Escalating global demand for polyester textiles has triggered corresponding growth in the market for PTA, which is currently increasing at a rate of 8% per annum," says John.

"To satisfy this demand, PTA producers and synthetic textile companies operating predominantly within the Far East are continuing to expand and up-grade their production facilities with cost-effective manufacturing techniques and investment in some of the most advanced process technologies".

"Having thoroughly researched and sold into the PTA market for a good many years we became very much aware that processing plants were gradually increasing in size, with average manufacturing facilities producing well in excess of 600,000 tonnes per annum.

We also recognised that, being the world's largest decanters available for this type of duty, our machines were extremely compatible with the high volume PTA production processes and as such, were highly competitive in international markets.

With these conditions soundly in our favour, the initiative to strengthen our marketing strategy towards PTA producers in the Far East is beginning to pay substantial dividends".

Broadbent decanters, used in the primary dewatering process are intrinsically robust and combine reliable performance with a low maintenance requirement.

Due to recent development work and the large capacity of Broadbent PTA decanters, it is now possible for one decanter to continue processing up to 50 tonnes/hour of dry PTA powder whilst maintaining normal high quality product.

The latest orders received by the Broadbent Industrial Process Division, in the face of keen International competition, come from chemical and textile companies in Northern India; the Hengsheng area of China and Thailand.

All three plants will incorporate horizontal decanters, using well-proven and reliable mechanical seals and gearboxes to dewater at process temperatures in excess of 140oC.

Broadbent decanters and decanter up-grades, recently supplied to the Spanish chemicals company Interquesa, for a new factory in Montreal (Canada) and a production site in San Roque (Southern Spain), allowed this leading international PTA producer to operate with 25% more capacity on an existing plant, whilst retaining the same high quality and levels of dryness in the final product.
