Metal detection, check-weighing and X-ray systems
Thermo Fisher Scientific will be highlighting its wide range of metal detection, check-weighing and X-ray inspection systems for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries at 'Total' next week
In particular, the newly launched, high performance Thermo Scientific PowerX series of X-ray equipment, which consists of 16 market-leading models, capable of inspecting a variety of products ranging from small pharmaceutical glass vials to large, multi-pack cases.
Also on show will be the Goring Kerr EZx and PROx X-ray systems, a selection of industrial bulk weighing and monitoring products, and the APEX metal detector.
The robust and versatile Thermo Scientific PowerX models feature high-resolution detectors and sophisticated image analysis software to achieve the highest sensitivity and lowest false reject rates possible.
'Unique Virtual Contaminant Testing' software is available to simulate various types, sizes and positions of contaminants to quickly determine how to achieve the best performance in each application.
In addition, to ensure quick resolution of problems and minimise downtime, the IP65 compliant PowerX range also features remote access to hardware and software for diagnostics and software upgrades.
The PowerX S and D models are designed for the highest level of foreign body detection in upright containers including jars, cans, bottles and boxes.
The sophisticated D models feature a patented double-beam X-ray architecture designed to detect glass slivers or chips in glass containers with 100% probability.
The economical S models utilise the same powerful software, but have a single beam for packages without hidden inspection areas.
For packaged products, the C flat-bed conveyor system offers an inspection view up to 700 mm wide by 360 mm high.
The larger C models have up to 900 Watts of X-ray power, making them capable of penetrating the multiple layers of product typically found in end-of-the-line case inspection applications.
Smaller, lower-powered models are also available with options for compact, built-in rejection systems.
The seventh-generation Thermo Scientific PROx is a state-of-the-art X-ray inspection system capable of detecting metal, glass, stone, bone, plastics, wire and other dense contaminants in virtually any packaged, bulk flow or piped product.
It is a compact, flexible machine, which can be quickly and easily integrated into production lines and offers powerful and proven X-ray sensing capabilities as well as advanced image analysis software.
Alternatively, the Thermo Scientific EZx is an X-ray machine offering the simplicity of a metal detector combined with the enhanced detection capability and sensitivity of an X-ray solution.
The unit has been specially developed with metal detector users in mind and is particularly effective on lines utilising new metallised film of foil packaging.
The Thermo Scientific APEX high performance metal detector offers 20 per cent increase in sensitivity - setting a new standard in metal detector performance.
Utilising state-of-the-art "multi-coil" technology, the APEX system increases the effect of the magnetic field in the aperture by more than 1.5 times, enabling the detector to target and amplify signals from much smaller pieces of metal.
The APEX platform also incorporates a new shielding technique that dramatically reduces the unwanted effects from hard to handle, wet or conductive products.
The combination of these two design innovations, along with totally new digital signal processing (DSP) software, allows customers to achieve previously unattainable sensitivity levels.
Also being highlighted is the Thermo Scientific GP range of checkweighers including two recent additions, which have been purpose designed for the food and pharmaceutical sectors.
The GP-275 is aimed at food packaging companies and is an extremely durable, accurate machine with a wider belt measuring 275mm.
The GP-Pharma bridges the gap between their general purpose checkweighers and its top end AC9Rx model.
It is capable of high speed handling of the small, lightweight packs favoured by the pharmaceutical sector.
The Thermo Scientific loss-in-weight and volumetric feeding systems designed to accurately control the flow of powders, pellets, flakes and granules to critical processes.
The Model 90.151 low capacity weighbelt feeder has been developed for weighfeeding applications with low feed rates and light belt loading requirements.
The Spectra-Quad online constituent analyser provides continuous, accurate, real-time information on moisture and other critical product parameters by monitoring product content.
Thermo Scientific will be located on stand no 5664 at the Total Processing and Packaging Show, NEC Birmingham, 15-18 May.
