Oval gear flowmeters with electronic
displays
The Titan Oval Gear flowmeter product range give high performance with a low cost of ownership: and they are now available with the modern Metra-Smart flow rate and total electronic display units
These compact, rugged flowmeters are happy measuring simple water like products as well as chemicals or lubricating fluids There are several versions, some can have totally non-metallic wetted components, made from PEEK, ceramic and a choice of elastomer - an ideal choice for the metering of aggressive chemicals

Light weight and accurate flowmeter applications
Titan Enterprises has designed some light weight oval gear flowmeters: one is used for monitoring hydraulic fluids at the end of a robot arm, another to monitor sulphite hand spraying in a vineyard
For ATEX approved hazardous area use, either the Namur sensor or the reed switch (which is defined as a 'simple' apparatus) may be used.
The principle of operation is that of contra-rotating oval gears: at the heart of the meter are a pair of toothed oval gears, one of which contains chemically resistant magnets: the gears rotate freely on robust bearings.
Rotation is detected through the chamber wall by a Hall effect magnetic field detector, Namur sensor or a reed switch: the count here gives a defined number pulses per litre passed.
The output is an NPN pulse or a voltage free contact closure, either of which is readily interfaced with most electronic display or recording devices.
This combination of materials and technology ensures a long life product with reliable, accurate operation throughout.
PEEK is a superb material for gear and bearing manufacture, it has excellent pressure and velocity characteristics coupled with very good thermal properties and chemical resistance.
For really viscous fluids with viscosity above 1000cS, specially cut gears are required and the flow range is reduced slightly for a given meter size.
The Metra-Smart electronic read-out unit was specifically designed for computing and displaying rate and total flow, as well as giving an analogue output proportional to flow.
It can also give two pre-set flow switch points and calculate differential rates from two input sensors.
The instrument will display any of a Re-settable Total, Accumulated Total and Flow Rate, in engineering units, as programmed by the user.
Simple PIN protected flow chart programming with English prompts guide you through the entire programming routine greatly reducing the need to refer to the instruction manual.
The pulse output can be selected to act as an input pulse repeater serving as a signal conditioner module or may be programmed as a scaled pulse output for remote metering.
There is a ten point linearisation for non-linear sensors, which can be configured during the meter calibration if requested.
The analogue output and flow switch functions require an external 8 - 24Vdc power supply.
The robust housing is purpose designed to suit harsh indoor and out-door industrial and marine environments.
It is weatherproof to IP67 (Nema 4X) standards, UV resistant and uses glass rein-forced nylon mouldings with stainless steel screws and viton 0-rings.
The LCD 8 digit alpha-numeric display has 9mm high main characters with engineering units and mode indicators plus a low battery indicator.
Displays of rate, total and accumulative total all have independently programmable decimal point positions.
The programming prompts scroll in plain English for ease of use.
The inputs are compatible with reed switch, Hall effect detector, magnetic coil (20mV P-P), voltage pulse and Namur proximity detectors.
Maximum input frequency 500 to 5Khz depending on sensor type, minimum 0Hz, (0.1Hz when used on internal power and for rate indication).
A loop power of 4 to 20mA can be spanned anywhere within the flow range, 12-24 V dc into 750 ohm loop load.
Accuracy is +/-0.1% FSD.
A test output is activated during programming for a system function check.
The two set points are NPN/PNP pulse outputs with selectable FET transistors programmable as high and low set points with dead bands.
Maximum power is 100mA at 24V dc.
Internal 3.6V Ultra lithium battery is used for internal battery powered use.
There is an additional scaleable pulse output selectable NPN or PNP: it has a maximum frequency of 100 Hz, at 1A maximum.
The housing is high impact glass reinforced nylon with a self drill cable gland in the base or rear.
Operating temperature range - 20C to +80C.
When the unit is measuring flow rate the first 2 or 3 digits show the time base (i.e SEC, MIN, Hr or DAY).
Materials of construction: The Metra-Smart is constructed of a UV resistant glass reinforced nylon case, polycarbonate cover, Viton seals and stainless steel screws. Request a free brochure from Titan Enterprises ...
