Thermo Electron Corporation, a premier global supplier of analytical instruments, has announced the recent expansion of its manufacturing operations in Texas

Thermo Electron Corporation, a premier global supplier of analytical instruments, has announced the recent expansion of its manufacturing operations in Sugar Land, Texas.

Marking a major milestone for Thermo Electron Process Systems, a new 150,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility has increased the Thermo manufacturing operations in Texas by nearly 75 percent.

The new manufacturing centre has consolidated operations centres formerly located in Round Rock and Houston.

In dedicating the new building, Thermo Electron CEO Marijn Dekkers said, "Building the Thermo capabilities in this region, at the heart of the oil and gas industries, is a core part of our growth strategy.

This facility is an important step toward expanding our presence and we see great potential for Thermo in the future with such a deep pool of talent in the Sugar Land and greater Houston area".

Supplying a broad range of process industries, with a focus on oil and gas and petrochemical markets, the Process Systems business unit manufactures gas flow computers, nuclear sensors, process analysers and ultrasonic flow meters at the new facility.

Thermo Electron process instruments are designed to maximise performance, quality, security and productivity of critical processes in a wide range of industries with solutions that provide real-time measurement of physical and chemical properties as well as data collection, analysis, and local process control.

"What an exciting day this is for the City of Sugar Land," noted Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace who attended the opening ceremony for the facility.

"It is with great pride that we welcome Thermo Electron and their outstanding employees as the newest members of our community.

As Mayor, I see today as the beginning of a long-term relationship with Thermo Electron based on common vision in the pursuit of excellence and shared values of quality and customer service.

For us, this project represents not only new capital investment and new high paying jobs, but the recognition from a global leader in a growth industry that Sugar Land is an attractive full service community which can support their needs today and tomorrow".

"In this new facility, we are implementing up-to-date information technology and advanced lean manufacturing processes that will result in shorter lead times for delivery of products and spare parts orders, and also support a rapid response customer service programme that will increase order fulfillment performance and satisfaction for customers from around the world," added Gerard Abraham, president of Thermo Process Systems business.
