Thermo Electron, an industry leading producer of analytical and process instrumentation, today introduced self-optimising plunger lift software for their line of flow computers When combined with the Thermo powerful flow computer, the software eliminates the need for a costly secondary control system and allows gas producers to customise and optimise operations to best manage their unique well systems

Coupling the Thermo plunger lift system with the company's automated flow computing solutions can yield significant economic and environmental benefits.

By building plunger lift into gas flow computers, Thermo allows producers to see as much as a 20% increase in production - equating to a significant positive impact on their bottom line.

In addition, users will continue to achieve greater savings throughout the life of the well due to lower well maintenance costs and fewer remedial treatments.

Incorporating the Thermo plunger lift solution will also provide greater efficiency and reliability.

Offering the most innovative hardware and software technology, this solution is equipped with an integrated flow computer and plunger control, remote monitoring with real-time product data, full reporting and trouble shooting capabilities: and advanced self-optimising algorithms.

The environmental benefits of the Thermo plunger lift system include the ability to salvage surplus production equipment, avoided emissions and decreased electricity and chemical treatments.

"At Thermo Electron Corporation, we've been providing gas producers with innovative flow computing solutions for more than 40 years," said Margo Myers, oil and gas market manager for Thermo Electron: "Developing innovative solutions and helping customers optimise and increase their well production continues to be our mission".

The Thermo plunger lift algorithm consists of 7 methods that can be used at various stages of a well's life.

These methods include Intermitter, Timer, Timer No Pit, Original, No Pit, Load Factor and Manual methods.

Typically, in the beginning of a well's life, the Manual method will be used to learn the flow characteristics of that particular well.

Once the characteristics are known, alternate advanced methods can be used to optimise production, evolving with the life of the well.
