The WMTN project aims to support eligible West Midlands SMEs to improve their competitive position, profitability and vocational skill base, and has GBP26Million available to businesses in the region

Earlier this year the West Midlands Technology Network (WMTN) was awarded continuation European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding of GBP8.25m to extend their design based project until July 2008, and additional new European Social Fund (ESF) funding of GBP7.5m to engage SMEs in Design Management and Business Information Technology training courses This brings the total funding available to the region for this project to over GBP26 million

Managed by the University of Wolverhampton, the WMTN is a unique higher education project featuring eight centres of excellence, and is a collaborative venture between Coventry University, University of Central England, Staffordshire University, Walsall College and the University of Wolverhampton.

The project aims to support eligible West Midlands SMEs to improve their competitive position, profitability and vocational skill base.

Achievements to date are.

1) The total WMTN package to date is over GBP26 million for the West Midlands region making it one of the biggest projects managed by GOWM.

2) The WMTN is the first integrated funding project (ERDF and ESF) in the region providing holistic approach to SME support.

3) Delivering tangible outcomes:.

* 724 companies assisted since January 2003.

* 760 jobs safeguarded / created.

* GBP27 million safeguarded sales / new sales.

4) The WMTN has consistently achieved the highest levels of customer satisfaction - "90% of companies value the quality of assistance received from the WMTN delivery team as excellent / satisfactory".

In addition WMTN have re-branded the West Midlands Technology Network.
