Flowmax acquires Torbar Flowmeters

Torbar Flowmeters Ltd, manufacturer of the Torbar, Tribar and Mass Tribar averaging pitot primary flow elements and complete flow meter systems, has been acquired by Flowmax Holdings UK Ltd

Torbar Flowmeters Ltd, manufacturer of the Torbar, Tribar and Mass Tribar averaging pitot primary flow elements and complete flow meter systems, has been acquired by Flowmax Holdings UK Ltd, and will become part of the Flowmax Instrumentation Ltd division.

Jim Taylor, founder and managing director of Torbar, and co-director Terry Gluck continue as directors of the company, contributing their industry experience and knowledge to assist the vigorous expansion planned for the company and the division.

Torbars and Tribars are used to measure the flow of fluids, gases and steam in numerous industries including oil production and refining, chemical, pharmaceutical, processing in general, power generation, water and effluent treatment and distribution, gas processing and transmission, and in large air-conditioning systems.

Manufacture of the Torbar averaging pitot primary flow element started in 1985 and Torbar Flowmeters Ltd was formed in 1991 following many years of experience by Jim Taylor in the design and marketing of flow instrumentation in general and averaging pitot tubes in particular.

The Torbar has a proven track record for strength and reliability in world markets where it is distributed by over 70 agents in 50 countries.

More recently the Mass Tribar, which combines DP and temperature measurement in one probe, with a multi-variable DP transmitter to compute mass flow rate, was introduced.

Commenting on the acquisition, Robin Marshall and Graham Nel of the Flowmax Group said that the successful format of Torbar Flowmeters would be unchanged but the considerable resources of the Flowmax Group would be utilised to ensure faster growth in the future.
