Wireless sensing 'Demonstrator Showcase' in July

A Sensors and Instrumentation KTN product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team May 20, 2008

The SIKTN is organising a Wireless Sensing Demonstrator Showcase, which will provide an opportunity for industry and academia to display the technology, platforms, and applications of wireless sensing

Early prototyping has proven to be an essential methodology to evaluate wireless sensing systems.

Furthermore, it offers an excellent way to assess the applicability of the technology against real user requirements and to promote its market adoption.

The Sensors and Instrumentation Knowledge Transfer Network (SIKTN) is organising a Demonstrator Showcase, which will provide an opportunity for industry and academia to display technology, platforms, and realistic applications of wireless sensing.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the current state of the art and encourage future collaborations among the exhibitors and attendees.

The SIKTN are inviting innovative demonstrations from industry and academia and up to 16 of them will be selected to be displayed at this complementary event, which will be followed by a drinks reception.

The demonstrators will be classified into two categories:.

a) RandD systems.

b) Commercially available systems.

Areas of interest include, but are not restricted to the following:.

* Fundamentals and Physical Layer Techniques.

* MAC and Cross-Layer Design.

* Operating Systems and Programming Abstractions.

* Information Processing and Sensor Data Fusion.

* Mobile and Wireless Sensor Network Systems (Prototype and Commercial).

* Applications, Services and Business Approaches.

Keynote presentations will feature in the programme, from Prof Ian Marshall (University of Lancaster), Dr D.K Arvind (University of Edinburgh) and Dr Kirk Martinez (University of Southampton).

The demo proposals will be reviewed by a committee and a 'Best Demo Award' will be awarded in each of the two categories based upon both the technical and innovation contribution, while descriptions of accepted demos will be published in a delegates pack.

Organising Committee.

* Mr David Adamson, National Physical Laboratory.

* Prof John Gardiner, Wireless CIC.

* Dr Elena Gaura, Coventry University.

* Mr Roger Hazelden, TRW Conekt.

* Prof Robert Istepanian, Kingston University.

* Dr Cecilia Mascolo, Cambridge University.

* Dr George Roussos, Birkbeck College.

* Dr Werner Schiffers, Rolls Royce.
