3T RPD are pleased to announce the appointment of Jon Porter as their Operations Manager, signifying further the successful growth of these rapid product development specialists.
Jon initially trained in Engineering Product Design at South Bank University, before working for 3 years at ABB, firstly as a Senior Hydraulics Engineer, and then as their Regional Sales Manager.
Subsequently, he spent 6 years with Dyson in a range of operational and commercial roles, focusing primarily on the engineering research activities of the business.
Jon set up the prototyping and tooling divisions of Dyson, culminating in the re-focusing of the customer support role in which he managed 350 personnel.
Subsequently, he spent 21/2 years with Stirling-based CA Models as their Business Development Manager, before joining 3T in February.
Tim Plunkett, CEO of 3T says "We are pleased to welcome Jon to the growing team at 3T, and are confident that his vast experience in all areas of the product development cycle will assist our customers achieve success, whilst reinforcing the 3T market position".
3T is a market leader in rapid product development.
Using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technology, together with their extensive range of finishing techniques, they produce functional prototypes, enabling their customers to develop new products and get them to market ahead of their competition.
Running the largest sintering capability in the UK, early 2003 saw the acquisition of their first EOS P700, the world's largest laser sintering machine.
Just 6 months later their second P700 was installed, placing 3T in the top 3 worldwide! 3T are uniquely able to offer both EOS and DTM, as their suite of machinery also includes 2 EOS P360 machines and a DTM 2500 Plus, enabling them to provide the optimal machine to meet their customer requirements.
Large parts can be built in a single piece on the P700s, with a build volume of 700 x 380 x 580mm; the reduced need for joints increases their functionality.
Smaller parts with finer detail can be produced on the DTM.
Further, the P700s have an increased build speed with their twin laser system, giving a beneficial impact on delivery times, allowing even the largest jobs currently considered to be shipped within 7 days.
Tim Plunkett adds, "The continued success of 3T is driven by the skills of the people we have carefully selected and, combined with the technologies being developed, we are striving to make technological breakthroughs in the developing Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing markets.
