Contamination control in fresh produce preparation

A Tristel product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team May 16, 2007

Stabilised chlorine dioxide (SCD) is a cost-effective, safe and easy alternative to chlorine for controlling microbiological contamination on surfaces and in process water for food industry duties

Harvest Wash from Tristel Technologies uses SCD technology and is suitable for use throughout the processing environment as part of a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programme.

Harvest Wash is broad spectrum and fast acting, delivering bacteria, mould and odour control throughout the plant.

It is unaffected by pH or water hardness and is also non-corrosive at normal use concentrations.

The wide range of applications for which it can be used includes disinfection of food contact surfaces, treatment of flume water and the control of human pathogens in sprouted beans and seeds.

A working solution of Harvest Wash is achieved by mixing concentrate and activator immediately before use.

This ensures that the solution is always fresh and at full strength when used.

The concentrate and activators are low hazard irritants, so handling and storage are straightforward.

Additionally, the facility to use different activators means that one product can be used for a variety of applications.

Activation can be manual, or where there are repetitive or large volume requirements the process can be fully automated.

Equally an automated unit can be used as a central dilution and activation system for areas of a food plant that require differing concentrations.

Recently introduced dosing equipment is water driven ensuring ease of installation and intrinsic safety in the processing environment.
