A TSC Simulation product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jan 29, 2008

The first international forum on Modern Innovations in Training in the Oil and Gas Industry was held on December 3rd and 4th in the UK

This high profile, invitation only event was hosted by TSC at the newly opened Centre for Assessment of Technical Competence Humberside (CATCH), and attracted attendees from all over the world, including Libya, Abu Dhabi, Nigeria and Malaysia, as well as companies such as BP, ExxonMobil, EniGas, Murphy Oil, ADNOC, the American Petroleum Institute and the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

The forum explored the "joined up thinking" between training qualifications and the competencies required to carry out a job specification.

Speakers and topics included the SQA, the mobilisation of new training centres and operator training plant, the determination of required competencies and skills, their measurement tracking and recording using modern methods, including mobile phone technology and the electronic competence "passport".

Linkages were made to the latest European Reference Framework for job competencies in the chemical industry through the Leonardo da Vinci project.

Michael Bolton, Managing Director for TSC, said; "The event has proved most useful for the many companies wishing to expand their training facilities and competence standards over the next few years, and we hope to repeat the forum again next year".

At the end of the forum, TSC and INRS were able to show the latest in 3D flythrough and blended learning modules in association with dynamic simulation for basic underpinning knowledge.

A highlight of the event was a visit to the Virtual Reality Control Room, recently supplied by TSC to the CATCH facility.
