EN 61242 found insufficient by the EC
EN 61242 cable reels found to be lacking according to the European Commission opinion
EN 61242 cable reels found to be lacking according to the European Commission opinion Cable reels currently on the UK market may be in violation of the law and potentially dangerous
In general cable reels are designed to meet the requirements of the harmonised standard EN 61242, which has now been found insufficient by the European Commission to support a declaration of conformity with the Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EC.
Therefore, those responsible for putting cable reels on the market should re-assess them against the requirements of the Commission Opinion, to adequately address the risk of fire and of electric shock which is likely during an overload of the cable reels.
