CE mark recognition in the USA and Canada
In the US and Canada is the CE mark or certification of equipment by foreign testing organisations accepted? It is not comparable with the NRTL listing as required by OSHA and the local jurisdictions!
Their accession should stimulate competition, innovation and employment in Europe and provide economic opportunities across the enlarged Union.
Recently, a survey, commissioned by the Engineering Employer's Federation, found that 40 per cent of UK engineering organisations are considering investment in Eastern Europe.
When investing in these countries, it is essential to understand the necessary testing and certification requirements because, even though these countries have joined the EU and sooner or later all European regulations will be implemented, there are and will always be national test marks which are essential to successful business activities.
In Poland for example, the B-mark has become a voluntary test mark since entry into the EU.
However, it is very well known and established, it is therefore, vital for entering the Polish market, as purchase decisions are frequently based on having this certification.
The Hungarian S- or MEEI-mark, the Czech ESC mark, the Slovak EVPU-mark and the Slovenian SIQ-mark are further examples of test marks that could determine the success or failure of a foreign investment.
