A new regulation on 7th January 2005 has been passed by the Argentinian Authorities, which introduces significant changes to the current certification scheme Manufacturers and importers have from that date on have the opportunity to make a choice between different certification systems concerning electrical and electronic products, but also for toys, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), elevators, lighters, bicycles for children and steel for construction

Type approval, S-Mark approval and Lot Approval are the three standards proposed.

TUV Rheinland Group, as an accredited certification body, recommends opting for the Argentinian S-mark approval for cost reasons and higher safety guarantee.

Type, as well as Lot approval may be cheaper and less complicated in the first place, But as the local market surveillance is very strict, in the long-term, the costs do increase and also safety cannot be guaranteed, as we do not supervise the manufacturing sites.

In that context, it is without any doubt that the TUV S-Mark, meeting the requirements of this regulation, works out cheaper than any other certification method.

These modifications also stipulate to exhibit a symbol showing compliance with the safety requirements for both type and lot approvals.

All the products will need a label that can be easily seen and a symbol that shows compliance with the safety requirements of the respective certification regime.

Additionally the product will have to show next to the symbol, the certificate number, and lot number identifying the lot for those products with a lot approval.

Moreover, the type designation of the products in their packaging or rating labels will have to be identical to the model designation listed in the certificate.

Electronic components, fuses and cables for electrical installation, which entered the Argentina S-mark certification in April 2001, through art 1 of Disposition 507/2000, are exempted from this Resolution.

Such products already need an Argentinian S-mark approval in order to be marketed in the country: the requirement of identification by means of this symbol will be mandatory from the 6th of July 2005.
