Tracer has recently fulfilled an EPC project to provide an electric frost protection system at the Scottish Water new Wastewater Treatment Works for Aviemore

Tracer, the worldwide engineering and construction services arm of Tyco Thermal Controls, has recently fulfilled an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project to provide an electric frost protection system at the Scottish Water new Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) for Aviemore in Scotland Built at Granish, to replace an old filtration plant, the new Aviemore WwTW employs state-of-the-art processing technology to provide increased processing capacity from a much smaller footprint

The Aviemore area has a reputation for very low ambient temperatures and the main contractor, Galliford Morgan Est Joint Venture (GMJV), needed to be sure that there was no risk of freezing within the exposed pipework at the new processing plant.

Tracer once again demonstrated its expertise as a full heat-tracing integrator - designing the frost protection system and then managing the multi-discipline interfaces required to engineer and install it, whilst offering the customer a single point of responsibility.

The heat-tracing system has been designed to -20C and based around Raychem BTV self-regulating heating cable and AT-TS-13 ambient sensing thermostats.

All the exposed ductile iron and stainless steel pipework and plastic washwater pipes have been heat-traced and thermally insulated and protected with an external stucco aluminium cladding.

A variety of pipe sizes are protected ranging upwards from 25mm.

It was even considered advisable to trace 200mm pipework because at this location the very low temperatures are often sustained over extended periods.

Complete with power distribution board and power feed cables, Tracer handed over the complete turnkey frost protection system within budget.

Worldwide experience, expertise and the extensive Raychem, Isopad, Pyrotenax and DigiTrace branded product ranges in the Tyco Thermal Controls portfolio enables Tracer to offer a service as a full heat management systems (HMS) integrator.

It offers expertise in optimising the complete system design and then managing the multi-discipline interfaces required to engineer and install it, whilst offering the customer a single point of responsibility for the whole project.

With early project involvement Tracer can ensure there is cost-optimisation at every stage, by designing and constructing a fully integrated system, optimising specifications and managing a reduced number of costly interfaces for all aspects of the HMS - heat-tracing, power distribution, insulation, control and monitoring etc.

This technical expertise, together with logistical efficiency and an excellent safety record, is behind the Tracer reputation for successfully delivering even the largest and most complex requirements on-time and on-budget, anywhere in the world.

Upon commissioning, the customer takes possession of a complete quality assured system with on-going 'local' support once the system is up and running.
