Upgrades to CoolPoint vortex shedding flowmeters for improved flow accuracy, increased turndown and response-rate adjustability enable use in automated and robotic machinery applications

The CoolPoint upgrades provide added capabilities and greater flexibility in measuring and monitoring flows of cooling water, water/glycol coolant and low-viscosity fluids in most process industries The new features are offered as nominally priced options on the CoolPoint series five most popular pipe sizes: 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, 1 inch, 1.1/2 inches and 2 inches

The five CoolPoint models are now available with +/-1 percent full-scale accuracy, compared with +/-2 percent FS as a standard feature.

Flow repeatability of +/-0.25 percent of actual flow continues as standard.

The additional accuracy combined with continued high repeatability provides inherent advantages in measuring and monitoring precise flows for demanding automation/robotics applications such as batching.

Increased Turndown (Rangeability): - Flow turndown of 20:1 is now an option on the five CoolPoint models, up from the 10:1 turndown offered as standard.

Turndown is the ratio of the maximum to the minimum flow rate that a flowmeter can measure.

The increased turndown ratio improves user capability to detect, read and record low flows, an advantage in many batching operations and in standardising on a single flowmeter model for multiple applications.

Response-Rate Adjustability: - Field adjustability of flowmeter response time for the 4-20 mA transmitter signal is a new feature offered on the five models.

The user can adjust the meter's response time from 0.9 seconds up to 7.5 seconds.

This adjustability enables the user to set the meter for a very fast response time, a necessity for signaling a robotic controller immediately in event of trouble, or a slower time that minimises the effects of flow fluctuation and enables a control system to respond to data based on flow averages.

The upgraded CoolPoint models accommodate maximum flow rates as follows: 1/2 inch size, 12 gallons per minute (45 LPM); 3/4 inch, 25 GPM (95 LPM); 1 inch, 50 GPM (190 LPM); 1.1/2 inches, 100 GPM (380 LPM); and 2 inches, 200 GPM (750 LPM).

CoolPoint flowmeters have no moving parts to stick or coat, eliminating potential for jamming.

The series also includes 1/4 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch models for flow rates up to 600 GPM (2271 LPM).

The 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch sizes are offered in 316 stainless steel construction for low-viscosity corrosive fluids and water with chemicals added.

Pipe sizes from 3/4 inch to 4 inches are available with a temperature transmitter for flow applications involving heat removal.

Universal Flow Monitors, located in Hazel Park, Michigan, has manufactured flowmeters for a variety of industries for more than 20 years.

Product literature for CoolPoint flowmeters is available in English, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese on the website.
