Engineering businesses looking to recruit skilled engineers should beat a path to the door of the University of Greenwich School of Engineering following an official seal of approval by the IIE

Engineering businesses looking to recruit skilled engineers should beat a path to the door of the University of Greenwich School of Engineering following an official seal of approval The Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE) has recognised three of the courses on offer at the University: BSc Hons in Mechanical Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; and Engineering and Business Management

Following an in depth assessment of the respective courses and facilities on offer, and involved a high level visit from the Institution.

The IIE praised the work the University of Greenwich at Medway is doing to improve the provision of engineering skills and strengthen links between itself and industry through its courses and research.

Dr Stuart Ashenden at their Medway School of Engineering, said: "The announcement from the IIE, one of the UK's leading engineering authorities, is a major vote of confidence in the quality of these courses and shows that we are meeting the needs of industry by providing people with the right skills.

"This recognition vindicates the commitment and hard work of everybody in the School of Engineering and the multi-million pound investment in facilities by the university".

In a move endorsed by the IIE, the University of Greenwich at Medway also assists students who have gained a HND in Engineering by providing the opportunity to do a further year's study to qualify for a BSc degree.

This enables the students to qualify for IEE membership.

The IIE announcement follows the recent praise for University of Greenwich engineers in the Government Lambert Review of Business-University Collaboration.

The review highlighted the work with the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline and the substantial cost savings made using the research at the university Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology.
