Major Vacon contract with Greek mining
industry
The variable speed AC drives manufacturer Vacon has won a most significant contract from Metka in Greece for conveyor systems in lignite mines in Western Macedonia

The AC drive manufacturer Vacon has launched a new high-performance Vacon NXP drive to the market, for demanding automation, motion control and machine building applications
Vacon AC drives will be delivered to lignite mines at Kardia and Mavropigi in Western Macedonia, owned by the Public Power Corporation of Greece (PPC).
Metka won the contract for the procurement, installation and testing of a total of 61 conveyor belt stations, which will be controlled by Vacon AC drives.
"The mining industry is an important area for us, and we are very pleased that such a major and first-rate system integrator as Metka has chosen us as their drives supplier.
This is one of our most significant single contracts.
We believe our cooperation will be strong and very rewarding.
In future, we will further increase our investments and support in the mining segment," says Mr Heikki Hiltunen, Executive Vice President, Products and Markets, Vacon.
"We consider that this significant project will be the starting point of a long-term collaboration with Vacon," says Mr P Gardelinos, General Manager, Projects at Metka.
The Public Power Corporation is a state-owned energy company which serves electricity and power for the whole of Greece.
