In this new role, Mike Shears is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a production planning system that includes reviewing and distributing production and work schedules to ensure that accurate delivery deadlines are met.
He brings considerable expertise to the role, having moved from the automotive division of Darchem Engineering, where he was production controller responsible for the flow of orders to customers such as McLaren, Aston Martin, Ford and Prodrive.
He has also carried out a similar role in the food industry, working for Northern Foods, a major supplier to Tesco.
Commenting on his new role within Van Leeuwen Wheeler he says: "Having worked in industries where production scheduling and logistical organisation were critical to the success of the business, I feel I can bring a valuable perspective to Van Leeuwen Wheeler operations.
Our focus is on improving our efficiency and service to customers and to ensure that it is essential to have a clear understanding of the importance of efficient scheduling and timely deliveries".
Part of the Netherlands-based Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group, an international distributor of industrial steel pipes and tubes, flanges, fittings and valves, Van Leeuwen Wheeler has recently expanded its operations at its 100,000sq ft Middlesbrough warehouse.
As well as expanding its ranges of mechanical and hydraulic pipe it offers an increased range of material for process industries plus expanded stocks of stainless steel.
The expansion has also seen a 30% increase in its cutting capacities.
The company has a second warehouse at Brierley Hill in the West Midlands and also supplies direct from its parent company's major stockholding facilities in the Netherlands.
