Verano experts present best cybersecurity practice
Verano experts will present their recommendations for the best cybersecurity solutions for mission-critical applications at several future utility conferences: DistribuTech, IEE Water and PowerGen
Verano security experts Al Cooley and Ron Derynck will address best practices for securing systems that control the management, transmission, distribution and generation of utilities, such as water, energy and electricity, from cyberattacks, at IEE Water, PowerGen 2004 and DistribuTech Conferences.
"Across critical infrastructure industries, executives and system operators realise the importance of protecting their systems from the potentially crippling and widespread effects of a cyberattack," said Brian Ahern, president and CEO of Verano.
"Drawing on their expertise in both mission-critical industrial operations and cybersecurity, Al and Ron will outline cybersecurity best practices for utilities - from the technologies available for mitigation, to the departmental responsibilities for managing these solutions.
This information will help operations personnel secure their environments more efficiently and effectively".
* At IEE Water on November 25, Ron Derynck, Verano director of product strategies, will present "General solutions for electronic security in SCADA".
Part of the conference's session on security, Derynck's presentation will take place at 2:00 pm in the Panorama Suite of the Rootes Social Building at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
* At PowerGen International on November 30, Al Cooley, Verano director of security marketing, will present "Industrial network security threats, vulnerabilities and solutions".
The presentation will be part of Power Industry Trends II session "The transmission grid - risks and opportunities," and commence at 0930 in room S320B at the Orange County Convention Centre in Orlando, Fla.
* At DistribuTech on January 26, 2005, Derynck will co-present "Building secure electricity transmission and distribution systems" with Nick Carr, enterprise product marketing manager for Red Hat.
The presentation will be part of the session entitled "How to secure your T and D assets from cyber intrusion and future standards," from 0930 until 1100 at the San Diego Convention Centre.
