EasiCollar stops spigot and socket leaks

A Viking Johnson product story

The Viking Johnson's EasiCollar made it possible for contractor JN Bentley to prevent water losses from a compensation main on a Victorian reservoir without shutting down the pipeline.

Twenty-three EasiCollars were fitted on the 100-metre run of 18 inch diameter cast iron spigot and socket pipes at the Yorkshire Water Dam Flask reservoir, which dates from 1898.

Over the course of time the lead used to seal the pipes had worked loose, resulting in leaks that became evident when work began on updating the valve and telemetry facilities on the main.

Replacing the pipes was unnecessary because they were otherwise sound and - like slip-lining, which was also considered - it would have jeopardised the statutory obligation on Yorkshire Water to maintain the return flow to the river.

EasiCollar avoided the problem altogether, as it can be installed under pressure around the existing joint, ensuring a long-term leak-tight seal.

As well as cast iron, EasiCollar is suitable for ductile iron, steel, asbestos cement and concrete pipes.

It is just one of the Viking Johnson EasiRange of pipe repair and tapping products, which also includes clamps, taps and tees.
