VJ couplings solve dock valve replacement problem

A Viking Johnson product story

When maintenance at the UK Mersey Docks and Harbour Company found that the pipe joints needed for a valve replacement scheme were no longer available: Viking Johnson came up with an alternative

When maintenance staff at the UK's Mersey Docks and Harbour Company found that the pipe joints that they needed for a valve replacement scheme were no longer available, it was Viking Johnson who came up with a suitable (and up-to-date) alternative.

The problem came to light when the Company was planning to renew the suction valves on the pumps in Liverpool Docks Canada Impounding Station, which maintain the water level in the dock during tidal variations by drawing in water from the River Mersey.

The old suction valves, which had been in service for around 40 years, were connected to the 1600mm OD inlet pipes by Victaulic pipe joints of a type that is now obsolete, but fortunately the specification was within the scope of the Viking Johnson Large Diameter range.

The shoulders provided to locate the original joints were machined away, and Viking Johnson supplied the couplings with extra-long sleeves to give ample latitude for fitting them into the available space.

Large Diameter couplings, stepped couplings and flange adaptors have been supplied for some of the world's biggest and most prestigious pipeline projects.

They can be supplied to suit all standard and non-standard pipe diameters between DN350 and DN5000.
