The additional tolerance is necessary because the GRP pipes are manufactured by winding the resin-impregnated glass fibres on a tapered mandrel.
This produces variations in the OD (nominally up to 1.8m) depending on the final wall thickness and the degree of taper at the point where the connection is made.
